I’ve photographed weddings full-time since 2005, beginning with a background in photojournalism and eventually building a career around documenting real people, real moments and the places where those stories happen.

After more than 800 weddings, I know when a couple needs clear direction and when the best thing I can do is step back and let the day unfold.

My approach is straightforward: strong portraits, honest documentary photographs, natural editing and as little disruption to the wedding day as possible.

Newfoundland Weddings - $3,500

Full-day coverage from morning preparations through the evening celebration.

Includes planning consultation, family and wedding-party portraits, documentary coverage throughout the day, sunset and evening photography whenever conditions allow, a high-resolution online gallery and a complimentary engagement session.

Travel throughout Newfoundland is included for most weddings.

HOW I PHOTOGRAPH A WEDDING

I don’t believe a wedding should become a day-long photo shoot.

There are photographs that need direction, and I’m comfortable taking control when that is what the situation calls for. Family photographs need to be organized. Portraits sometimes need to happen quickly. If the light suddenly becomes incredible or the weather gives us an opportunity, I’m going to tell you.

But most of a wedding is better photographed by paying attention.

The reactions during the ceremony. Your parents talking to people you haven’t seen in years. Someone losing it on the dance floor. A quiet conversation off to the side of the room. The things that were never on the timeline but end up mattering later.

That is where my background in photojournalism still shapes the way I work.

Newfoundland has also taught me to be fairly relaxed about plans.

I’ve photographed weddings through wind, rain, fog, delayed ceremonies, missing vendors, changing timelines and just about every other variation a wedding day can produce.

You deal with what is actually happening rather than wishing the day looked like the schedule.

Sometimes the fog becomes the photograph.

Sometimes the rain gives you something better than the plan did.

And sometimes everything runs perfectly.

Either way, my job is to keep photographing it.

THE FINISHED PHOTOGRAPHS

My editing is deliberately clean and natural.

I’m not interested in making a wedding look like whatever happens to be fashionable on Instagram this year. Colours should look believable. Skin should look like skin. 

Black and white photographs should feel intentional.

The goal is not to make the photographs look trendy now.

It is to make sure they still look good twenty years from now.
